Our first stop is Ledra Street, a vibrant pedestrian area brimming with souvenir shops, restaurants, and cafes. We'll explore the section within the old town.
Next, we'll visit the nearby Leventis Municipal Museum, which offers a fascinating journey through time, showcasing exhibitions from the Chalcolithic era (around 5,000 years ago) to the present day. You'll see a diverse collection, including delicate clothing, daily items, and historical pictures.
Ancient Defenses, Historic Homes & The Green Line
Following this, we'll head to the Venetian Walls. These impressive walls are the largest and best-preserved historical relics in Nicosia, encircling the old town for 5 kilometers (3 miles) and reaching a height of 12 meters (39.4 feet). Their roughly circular shape is punctuated by 11 fortifications at equal intervals.
Our exploration continues in South Nicosia, with planned visits to Famagusta Gate, the House of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, and the Green Line.
Ottoman Grandeur & Bustling Bazaars
Afterward, you'll be accompanied to Buyuk Han. Built in 1572, this former caravanserai stands as the most impressive Ottoman architecture in Cyprus. It's not just a historical gem; it also offers a wonderful opportunity to admire unique handmade artworks.
Next, we'll explore the majestic Selimiye Camii, historically known as St. Sophia Cathedral, a grand mosque with a rich past. Our journey continues as we dive into the vibrant atmosphere of the Grand Bazaar, explore the charming Arasta Quarter, discover the ancient Venetian Column, and wander through the picturesque Arabahmet Quarter.
